Even the Best

The anonymous poet who composed Psalm 119 (an acrostic poem of praise) spoke for us all when he said in the last verse of this, the longest psalm:
I have strayed like a lost sheep. Seek your servant, for I have not forgotten your commands.
The psalmist is really saying, "Lord, I haven't forgotten You, I'm doing the best I can. But I'm helpless, help me. I'm lost, find me!"

It is good sometimes to remember that even the most devoted sheep are helpless and lost at times. The best sheep are not the ones who know all about pleasant pastures and vicious predators. The best sheep are the ones who know how much they need a shepherd.

It is from out of the depths of our humility that the height of our destiny looks grandest. Let me truly feel that in myself I am nothing, and at once, through every inlet of my soul, God comes in, and is everything in me. ~ William Mountford

Yet for all God's good will toward us, He is unable to grant us our heart's desires till all our desires have been reduced to one. ~ A.W. Tozer

Take glory neither in money, if you have some, nor in influential friends, but in God who gives you everything and above all wants to give you Himself. ~ Thomas a Kempis
