Painting the set is always an event that all of of us look forward to! It's a messy affair, and with us crazies, sooner or later every one has been swiped with paint by some cast member. By the end of last night, my 'battle scars' were: a red heart/circle/glob on my left arm by Clarissa Light, a blue mustache/heart on my face by Tessie Hamacher, a blue blotch on my lower left arm by Jorin Larson, and many other splashes by painters on platforms above. :-) In spite of lots of joking, laughter, and fun, we get a lot done in very little time. It's a great way to pull us together as cast and friends, making special memories as we put the show together.
The set is such a huge part of the performance. It tells so much of the story. And the Nisbetts, once again, have designed the coolest set, perfect for A Tale of Two Cities. Our over 8ft tall structures easily glide around the stage, often with people running up and down while it's in motion. It's too neat, and super fun to work on! I am not too fond of heights myself, and I must admit I was crossing my fingers during blocking, hoping not to have to get on the top. ;) Thankfully though, it's pretty sturdy with lots of railing, and I'm getting used to it - I have to say, it's super fun! It looked great before, but after last night's painting, it's come to life. A mixture of greens, blues, and reddish-brown, it now looks like the most beat-up, old, creaky building you've ever seen. :) Add a beautiful back-wall scene and a cobble-stone floor next week, and it will be breathtaking. (plus lots more goosebumps!)
More updates to come! Super fun rehearsals coming up this weekend - finishing blocking Everything Stays the Same this Thursday, running Act 2 Friday, and running Act 1 on Saturday. It'll be super fun to see everything come together - I'm so excited to see the rest of the scenes!
