Learning to Hunger

For He satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things. ~Psalm 107:9

Oh, that every morning when I wake to my stomach growling for breakfast my heart also was hungry for fellowship with my dear Master! So often we fill our body with the pleasures this world has to offer, and all the while our soul is slowly dying from hunger for that sweet communion with its Savior. He is ever-ready, always coaxing, trying to draw us for our much-needed spiritual filling. Why do we sometimes so stubbornly resist? Just as a child who despises his vegetables and instead wants sweets - so our heart desires the "yummy" temporary pleasures of this world rather than the Bread of Life! It usually takes a while at the beginning, but once a habit is formed it is not easily broken. So it is with feeding our soul; we must daily take in a portion of that communion until eventually we feel hungry and deprived without it. God desires more than anything to be wholly involved in our lives - every thought, word, and action. But because He is so loving, He will never force His way in. Only when we accept His gift of amazing grace and invite Him will He flood our hearts with the joy and peace that pass all human understanding!

May we continually seek to grow in our walk with the Lord, dear friends. Heaven and earth will one day pass away, but the Word of our God shall stand forever!

In Christ,

Ashley
